Like it or not, you’re going to mess up while raising your child – particularly your firstborn. My son isn’t all that old yet, but there’s so many little things I never imagined I could mess up or just happen in general. My husband and I love him with all our heart, but we are human and obviously not as prepared as we thought we were!
Here’s our list of things we feel every newborn parent will undoubtedly do:
- You will misjudge the distance between you and another space while carrying your child. This may result in said child’s head being bounced off the wall (or door). It may happen more than once in that first week home.
- You will cut your child while trimming their finger nails. You will say this can’t happen to you, but it will – even after you’ve double checked where you are cutting. Your child will cry. Heck, you probably will too. But everyone will be fine!
- You will talk about poop more than ever. Poop suddenly gets more attention than you ever thought possible. Whether you are discussing where the poop is, what color it is, or how often it is – it will be discussed!
- You will get peed on – either directly or indirectly. Parents of little boys catch on to this one quickly, but even little girls will eventually make a mess that you have to clean up.
- You will go through more stain removers. See #3 and #4 above. I can only imagine what will happen when the real food hits and not just milk.
- You will have disagreements with well-meaning family members. Whether it’s “you can start feeding her food now” or “you have to give him a bath every day” – you’re going to hear plenty of advice that doesn’t match up to what you believe or what the doctor’s say.
- You will be amazed at how quickly your little one grows up! My babe is just over three months old, and I’m already a little delusional about how quickly he is growing up. I miss some of those newborn tendencies, but I also thoroughly enjoy where we’re at now. 🙂
What would you add to this list?
