Chiropractor appointments. I love the way they make me feel when I leave the office. But how I feel on the table? Not so much… The pain. The cracking. Knowing I’ve waited too long for an adjustment (again!). But then I learned one little trick to make chiropractic adjustments easier, and I haven’t minded going ever since!
You know how it goes. If you’re like me, you’ve moved a few times and seen different chiropractors. Or perhaps you simply didn’t like one you had, so you switched. Either way – I think many of us can agree that some of our chiropactor visits are less than stellar.
But what are you to do when your body is literally S-shaped from your back being out?
Losing weight has definitely helped me out. I’ve also slowly strengthened my core by doing Curves (when it was available where I lived), weight lifting, and doing Insanity at home. (That last one is a bear! But the results are soooo worth it!)
But it didn’t seem to matter how in shape I was or which chiropractor I went to, I always hated the adjustments and tensed up every.single.time.
Then one day one of them told me to breathe.
“Huh? I am breathing!” I thought to myself.
Then I exhaled.
Crack.crack.crack.crack.crack.crack.crack.crack!
If felt like half the bones in my body had gone back into place with one little push.
“Wait – did breathing and not tensing up really work that well?” I wondered.
So I tried this new found theory for my next few appointments. And you know what? It works!
Each time I go to the chiropractor, I simply keep my mouth open while I’m lying face down for an adjustment. Keeping my mouth open forces me to breath. When I breath I’m more relaxed. When I’m relaxed, I adjust easier! This one little tip will make chiropractic adjustments easier!
I seriously wish a chiropractor ten years ago would have told me to breathe! That one little tip would have saved me hours of pain and frustration from not going back into place as easily. It definitely would have made chiropractic adjustments easier, and I would have walked out feeling a whole lot better!
