Becoming a mom may very well be the greatest joy I have had so far in life. It’s amazing what a body can do – mine in growing a human and giving birth and his in the ability to grow and change so much. The lessons learned from a one year old are truly miraculous!
Never Give Up
You’ve got to learn to crawl, walk, talk, and so much more. If you give up you’d never get anywhere in life. As adults many of us need to remember this on a daily basis. Persevere. You’ve got this!
Most Things Are Not Worth Your Tears
My son hardly cries. He fusses some, but even when he falls down – he’s got a few sniffles and back up he goes. I could definitely learn from this! Most things in life are not worth our tears. But my son has also taught me that some things are worth crying over, and when they are – cry hard!
Enjoy the Little Things
As adults we take ourselves too seriously. My little guy? Not so much! If I put a milk lid on my head, he laughs. If daddy tilts his head sideways, he giggles.
Laugh Often
While you’re enjoying those little things above, make sure to laugh! Laughing is fun. Laughing is good for the soul. Laugh more. Adults definitely could learn this one from kids.
Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously
Do you have food in your hair? No worries, it washes out! Do you sound like a hyena when you laugh? No problem! Laugh anyway. It’s ok to be silly and not take yourself too seriously. No one gets out of this life alive anyway.
Take Naps
Some days you’re simply exhausted. Take a nap. It’s your call whether it’s a 30 minute power nap or a three hour doozie. Either way, enjoy it!
Explore the World Around You
There is so much to see on our great planet. Take time to explore the world around you. Get to know the people, animals, and plants that live here with you. Greet them with a smile and arms wide open!
There truly is a lot to be learned by a baby. That’s why the lessons learned from a one year old will forever hold a dear place in my heart, but I’m also excited to see what lessons I’ll have learned by the time he’s two. 🙂
